  I bought this book 2nd hand in 1992 for English at Uni. It became a permanent fixture in my bag or my car, for times when a short story was all I needed.

  I bought this book 2nd hand in 1992 for English at Uni. It became a permanent fixture in my bag or my car, for times when a short story was all I needed.

  At least 3 of the stories have stayed with me over the years, despite having lost my well-loved copy years ago.

  I have ordered a new copy with a different cover (unfortunately). I desperately wish I had my original well worn copy still!.

  Some of the stories in this collection...are classics; others...are less well known. But all of them – whether funny, tragic, wry or fantastic – show their authors at their concise best. Which makes this representative collection, at the very least, ferociously entertaining.
