What warps when you're traveling at warp speed?

What's the difference between a holodeck and a hologram?

What happens when you get beamed up?

What's the difference between a wormhole and a black hole?

What is antimatter, and why does the Enterprise need it?

Are time loops really possible, and can I kill my grandmother before I am born?

Discover the answers to these and many other fascinating questions from a renowned physicist and dedicated Trekker.

Featuring a section on the top ten physics bloopers and blunders in Star Trek as selected by Nobel-Prize winning physicists and other devout Trekkers!

"Today's science fiction is often tomorrow's science fact. The physics that underlines Star Trek is surely worth investigating. To confine our attention to terrestrial matters would be to limit the human spirit."

Lawrence Krauss is a professor of Physics, but he is also a Star Trek fan, and that’s what makes this book wonderful. He uses his knowledge of the laws of the Universe to analyze every device used by the crew of the Enterprise to understand what kind of technologies presented in the world of Star Trek could be realized in the future or what is physically impossible and will remain just a “trekker dream”.
The author explained the latest theories of relativity and quantum physics with impressive simplicity so that the book doesn’t result heavy for any kind of reader. He describes, thanks to the specifics given by the “Star Trek Technical Manual”, the mechanics of some technologies like the transporter, the holodeck and the warp engines, and reveals us the mysteries of the Universe: dark matter, extraterrestrial life, black holes, additional dimensions… His great enthusiasm will certainly beam you up to the NCC-1701!
I’d suggest reading this book to every Trekker, so that he could find out if one day there will be a real Kirk or if he will be forever a legend.
