I think this book is dedicated to someone who really loves ballet and pointework and to someone who wants to know more about the history, difference in different pointeshoe brands. If you expect that this one would teach you how to do pointework on your own (or anything similar like making yourself faster to get en pointe), I would say you're pretty green to ballet and on earth don't know much about ballet.
I found this book quite useful and informative in "decoding" pointes like their structure, history, brands all over the world. It also covers some preparation exercises when you come across your pointework class.
However, I would strongly advise those ballet beginners and/or those who have not been approved by their teachers to go en pointe DO NOT LEARN POINTE WORK ON YOUR OWN!!!!!! It's damn dangerous.
