Miri lives on a mountain where, for generations, her ancestors have quarried stone and lived a simple life. Then word comes that the king's priests have divined her small village the home of the future princess. In a year's time, the prince himself will come and choose his bride from among the girls of the village. The king's ministers set up an academy on the mountain, and every teenage girl must attend and learn how to become a princess.

Miri soon finds herself confronted with a harsh academy mistress, bitter competition among the girls, and her own conflicting desires to be chosen and win the heart of her childhood best friend. But when bandits seek out the academy to kidnap the future princess, Miri must rally the girls together and use a power unique to the mountain dwellers to save herself and her classmates.

[...] The author manages to make you feel shocked or laugh in the right scenes, and that that in the scenes of tension, you read frantically to know what will happen or if it really will happen what you think will happen. This is a beautiful story, full of emotions, in which we see how the characters start to value what they have and how they start thinking in what they really want when their lives are threatened. • This story answer my question about: Wouldn't education makes people greedy that they left their hometown to what-so-called-a-better-life?

Though the story-end is predictable, but it's still an interesting book to read from the beginning until the end.

A really engaging young adult book. I would love to let my daughter read this book when she is older. A more traditional type of love story instead of the ones I find out there now for teenagers to read. I liked it a lot.
