Good, but not great
I love this movie, and books are often better than the movies that come later, so perhaps my expectations were too high for this. I did enjoy it, but it seemed to be missing something for me, though I'm really not sure exactly what. The movie is just so much fun, and the book just didn't add anyth ... (continue)

The Princess Bride is one of my favorite books, period. Is there a more captivating romance than that between the most beautiful woman in the world and her swashbuckling farm boy? Is there anything more funny than the repartee between a giant, a swordsman, and a too-smart-for-his-own-good Sicilian? ... (continue)

Not as good as the movie
The book is good and the "good parts" story is simply fantastic, as the movie obviously demonstrates.

The pretend part, however, fell absolutely flat for me. The introduction with the fake story of how he came to 'abridge' the Morgenstern 'original' was OK, but it should have stopped at that: I imagine the obnoxious personal notes which pop up methodically in the middle of the book are supposed to be witty and funny and enhance the plot but, to me, they seem just uninspired, long and boring. Cut the part in italics (which ironically correspond to the parts that he "cut" from the "original") and the book flows much better and without interruptions.
