This is the latest book from the renowned environmentalist who first proposed the Gaia Hypothesis. The picture painted by the author for humankind is a very groomy one. James Lovelock actually think that it is now too late to talk about "sustainable development", and humankind must now plan for "sustainable retreat". While considering myself as an environmentalist, I somehow hope the future is not as dark as what is described by the author. But the facts and warnings are already there. The book came out in 2006, one year before the IPCC's latest report on global warming. Nevertheless, many of the data in the former is consistent with what is mentioned in the latter.
