This is one of the hardest book I've had to read for a long time. Don't get me wrong, it is not the subject matter that make the book horrendous. It is the writing! I found Mr. Edmund Morris' style both difficult and pretentious. The book is choke full of million-dollar words and untranslated foreign phrases. It is most reader-unfriendly.

However, in spite of Morris' writing, Teddy Roosevelt's energy and charisma just cannot be stopped! I fell in love with him before the end of the book. Perhaps, it is also due to Morris' extensive and dilligent research into TR's life. If you can get past the writing and make good companion with your dictionary, this is nonetheless a detailed and intimate potrayal of TR's early life and his rise to power.
