This book had a lot of ground to cover. About a year's worth. I've been writing a year-long fanfiction for 6 years now, and I'm on Chapter 17 and my chapters are far longer than this book. But I'm following one set of characters. This book covers many. That's good, but it's also bad. We tear away from one set and visit a couple of others and don't get back to that one set for 6 months it seems. I love the Enterprise crew. So I'd rather spend more time with them, than waiting 6 chapters for a peek. But the author managed to get me to care about where else we went. We saw Travis's other assignments after he left Enterprise but we don't know if he's survived. We watched Gannet Brooks take Starfleet to task over things she saw (ignoring that possibility that there were things going on she knew nothing about). We saw the changes on Romulus as they dealt with an insane Praetor, that Praetor's assassination, defeats in the field by Coalition forces and Haakonians separately, success in the field with terrible loss of life to the losing people, attempted assassinations and the rebel group's connivances. We saw MACOs go to battle and cared how that went. We saw various Coalition worlds before the Romulans took over and one when it was taken back. There is a LOT on this book. Sometimes the Enterprise crew gets lost in it. It's good, but it could be better.
