I loved the first three novels in the Chronicles, but this one is radically different. It takes place in the present time which isn't too bad. Lestat, becomes human once again and has quite an adventure.

I felt like I was reading a Superman novel. Lestat was relegated to superhero status whom had just swallowed Kryptonite and lost all his powers. The love scenes in the novel we all guys! Not my fetish, I'd prefer not to hear about how my once favorite vampire would secretly love to sleep with his friends.

Lestat and this novel got so wishy washy that it was the last of the Anne Rice novels I ever read, and I loved Anne Rice's previous works! Too bad.

  • Still a clever book despite it not being my personal favourite of the series, again mainly about Lestat but this time spending most of his time not as a vampire.

The third book "written" by Lestat is like the previous two (The Vampire Lestat and the Queen of the Damned): occasionally truly wonderful, but often annoying or boring. Anne Rice's vampires are my favourite kind and I really love reading about Lestat's various adventures, even though the plot is very predictable. The biggest problem lies in the narration – it gets so philosophical and deep in a way that is most of the time nowhere near interesting.

  • My persoanl favorite out of the series, and in my opinion the one that can best stand alone. (Not having needed to read the rest) Would make a great movie, which is why I adapted it into a screenplay. (For my own amusement. But would be nice if Hollywood called for it-Ha!Ha!)

  • Fourth in the series - The Vampire Chronicles

This one really didn't have the much to do with vampires. The whole body-snatching thing was really a completely different idea. I still enjoyed, mostly because of the characters - but it wasn't my favorite.
