Review on SugarPulp
My first Chinese science fiction novel. In a world dominated by western SF authors, one of the main positive aspects of "The three body problem" is the number of references to Chinese recent history and culture. There is an overturning of point of view with a Chinese-centric perspective. This SF doesn't lack scientific-like explanation following Clark's tradition but I also found similarities with Asimov. The characters are well defined mainly through their own words rather than external point of view descriptions. The plot develops from Chinese cultural revolution to the current SETI project, to then finish with the aliens' point of view and characterisation. The element of the internet-based video game as tool adopted for recruiting is interesting but probably not fully successful. The narration flows very well and it's never boring.
In summary a piece of SF that I think will be remembered for a long time, hoping that the following volumes stay on the same level....Continua
