I think the glamour of this series wears off when you re-read it. This time around, I found it pretentious and annoying. It aims to teach children vocabulary, but all of the asides and explanations started driving me crazy. The adult characters were absolutely incompetent and it was frustrating to read. The writing was also repetitive. This is one of those rare cases where I like the movie better.
