The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide
No less than five stars!
I read THGTTG in Italian several years ago and I always knew I had to read the book in the original version (and I bought the 6-pack).The Italian version was quite good, but the original is simply great. Written in a wonderful British English,
ritish English, spilling humor out of any pore, these multidimensional books are science-fiction to the nth power, where anything conceivable - and several unconceivable - is distilled to please and treat the SF fan.
It's not so easy to write a funny SF book - there are only a handful to me - because the ice on which the author's skating is very thin. Either they push the envelope too much on the weirdness of science and technology, or they work on the storytelling, leaving the SF landscape dull and plain.
But please, do not reduce Doug Adams' works to "comic" books arena. It's SF. Some of his intuitions and ideas are icons of SF (and for the very happy few that will read it after this review - I will not quote!)
