This sequel to The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie is as delightful as the first book in the series. I plan to read the third one now.

Although the book is for adults, the protagonist is an eleven-year-old girl. And, although it was written in 2010, it is set in 1950 and the language includes words from that time period, such as chesterfield, pantechnicon, and obsequies. Thank heaven for a Kindle in which I only have to move the cursor to the word and it will define it for me.

I enjoy the protagonist's passion for chemistry and her father's passion for philately. Flavia (our heroine) solves murder mysteries that the police fail to solve, and she does it in large part through her knowledge of chemistry.

  • I enjoyed Flavia de Luce's second adventure.
A well-written book, use of ample, vocabulary, likable characters and great flow to the story.
How can anyone not like this almost 11 year old prodigy, chemistry genius and remarkable sleuth?
    Fun & entertaining.
