This is an absolutely wonderful read. It's complex, complicated and completely compelling. I was disappointed to learn that it is a sequel; I would have preferred to have read the first one before becoming so engrossed in this story that I couldn't put it down! A fabulous sequel to "The Meaning of Night" with a great mixture of mystery, crime & secrets.
Loved the gloomy, mysterious and hypnotic quality of the narrative and I was glad to find just a few scattered footnotes and not one on every page like in it's predecessor.
