I cant believe I never read this book before! Obviously, I have seen the movie so many times when I was little. For that reason I was even more surprised by the book, the second half of it is completely different, including the ending. Not surprisingly, Michael Ende was not pleased with the movie and said it wasnt the kind of movie he would have wanted.
And I have to agree. I dont like comparing a book with its movie, but I cant help thinking that completely ignoring half of a book is really not a good idea.
On the book itself, I loved it. Both the story I already new, and for the 'new' part, where Bastian has to 'lose' himself to go back in the human world. Children should definitely read this first, rather than watch the movie.
