This shows the trademark Zelazny style. A fine mixture of mythology and SF.
It's not as well crafted as the later Lord of Light that wove the myth and the SF very well. Some of the borrowed myths and legends are either irrelevant or give the feels of out of place. And, the ending is too abrupt.

I love that short novel. Behind the post-atomic set we can still recognize the Earth and its people's legends. Well done characters and a lot of quotation from mythology, classic sci-fi and literature make that novel an original and immortal novel.
The first Zelazny's work.
