When Ellie and her friends go camping, they have no idea they're leaving their old lives behind forever. Despite a less-than-tragic food shortage and a secret crush or two, everything goes as planned. But a week later, they return home to find their houses empty and their pets starving. Something has gone wrong--horribly wrong. Before long, they realize the country has been invaded, and the entire town has been captured--including their families and all their friends. Ellie and the other survivors face an impossible decision: They can flee for the mountains or surrender. Or they can fight.

Due stelline e mezzo, arrotondate a tre per alcuni dialoghi curiosamente riusciti, nel contesto di un romanzo in generale piuttosto mediocre.

I find the idea of the invasion and the kids fighting to get their families back. I like Ellie's voice, it's strong, although she shows also the weaknesses you'd expected given the moment they're living. I like Homer's awakening in a military strategist or Fiona showing she's stronger than just a town chick (I LOL with the smashing window and the snake incident xD).

I'm looking for the rest of the books. The characters are interesting and the situation is intriguing. I want to know what happens next.

  • I am re-reading The Tomorrow Series in honour of the upcoming movie, and I could re-read these books again and again, and again. John Marsden is the perfect author - he creates believable and relatable characters, and a storyline which has you tense and turning the pages so quickly.

I first read Tomorrow When The War Began in high school (quite a few years ago...) and it was one of only two books in the curriculum which engaged me at the time (the other was Looking for Alibrandi). Every time a new one in the series came out I didn't get much sleep as I couldn't put it down.

This book is a timeless classic.
