Lara Lington is a typical Sophie Kinsella heroine. A single Londoner, Lara is always reaching for that pie in the sky regardless of whether or not she likes the flavor. Her boyfriend, Josh, broke up with her two months ago, and since then she has bee ... (read full critics)

  • Darling, when things go wrong in life, this is what you do. ... You lift your chin, put on a ravishing smile, mix yourself a little cocktail...and out you go.

  • My first audio-book ever, listened to in one seating from HK to Auckland. It is a fun book well read by the presenter to make the flight an enjoyable one.

The plot was stretched really thinly but i guess that is the whole point of this book. It was bizarre - Lara Linton who was able to see and talk to a ghost and who pandered up the ghost's so-called last wishes. It is appalling, unbelievable, and just downright ridiculous; yet it was funny and light-hearted. There were parts in the middle where i could have just abandoned the book because it bordered on the line of insanity - too far-fetched to be credible, but i am glad i did not. The ending was genuine, plausible and sad.

If you are new to Sophie Kinsella's novels, i reckon Remember Me? may make a better first impression.

  • Another Sophie Kinsella's novel outside the shopaholic series. It's a ghost story, but it's not scary at all. In fact, it's quite funny. However, Kinsella used the same shopaholic formula again with the main character Lara resembling the shopaholic Becky. All is a bit hackneyed and boring.
