Second time reading about child abuse. Compared with "The Little Prisoner", "Ugly" is more into details which makes the book a bit clumsy and slow-paced. But it enlightens me how the protagonist survived under such a tough circumstances and became a barrister in the end. When everyone was saying it's impossible and no way, she just proved the opposite!
Yet, this book proves us that there are mothers who can torture their own children like hell. Not until you've read it, you wouldn't imagine such thing happening on earth.
