With great irony van Cauwelaert tells us the story of a French gypsy with no legal identity who finds himself "repatriated" to Morocco, where he has never lived. Quite a commentary on French immigration and foreign policy with a description of the ENARC peon in the quai d'orsay which is hysterical. Aziz is wonderful character, completely a "debrouard" and totally charming. Won the Goncourt in 1994.
