Very good read. A great book for any lover of American history and real-life adventure. There was quite a bit I did not know about Lewis & Clark, their relationship with Thomas Jefferson, and the dangers involved in the exploration of the west. Lewis may have been a very imperfect person, but he' ... (continue)

An interesting book that covers in detail Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery on their travels through the Louisiana Purchase on through to the Pacific Ocean in a quest to discover a river route to the Pacific. I liked reading what they saw and how they described the landscape and wildlife that they encountered. Unfortunately today you can no longer see unbroken plains with tens of thousands of buffalo grazing, hundreds of elk and deer with almost no fear of man. The descriptions of the Indian tribes they encountered was covered in detail too, unfortunately again they did not get the credit they deserved in helping the explorers and basically keeping the corps alive in unknown lands. Why they did so when they could have easily wiped them out at any time is one of the great mysteries and reflects great credit on the Indians which Lewis & Clark almost never gave. It was also nice to read what happened to the explorers after they got back and reported to President Jefferson, this is a part of the story that almost no one knows.
