Book Description
This is an exploration of the history, meaning, and art of comics and cartooning. Using comics to examine the medium itself, the author takes the form of a cartoon character and explains the structure, meaning, and appeal of comics, and provides a running analysis of comics as art, literature, and communication. He reaches back to pre-Columbus picture manuscripts and Egyptian monuments to trace the history of the comics and examines their place in today's pop culture.

I thought this book was interesting, it talked and explained a lot on comics. why authors write the way they do and why the pictures and borders are the way they are in the comic books(:

The book opened my eyes to many small details about comics that i did not realize. Understanding Comics is a great book for people that are looking for a eye opening new way to read comics. This book also brings many key facts to everyday life, such as the hat inference that once a hat is put on it becomes part of that person.
