"Oggi nessuno mi darà più a intendere che l'uomo e la donna sono fatti a immagine e somiglianza di Dio."

Capolavoro di Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch, il più grande interprete letterario del masochismo (che dallo scrittore ha preso il nome).
Romanzo breve e intenso, divertente e crudele.

    Venus In Furs
    (Reed)

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
    Whiplash girlchild in the dark
Comes in bells, your servant, don't forsake him Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart
    Downy sins of streetlight fancies
Chase the costumes she shall wear
    Ermine furs adorn the imperious
    Severin, Severin awaits you there
I am tired, I am weary
I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams that would awake me Different colors made of tears
Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather
    Shiny leather in the dark
Tongue of thongs, the belt that does await you Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart
    Severin, Severin, speak so slightly
Severin, down on your bended knee
Taste the whip, in love not given lightly
Taste the whip, now plead for me
I am tired, I am weary
I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams that would awake me Different colors made of tears
Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
    Whiplash girlchild in the dark
Severin, your servant comes in bells, please don't forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

I first thought that this piece was an erotic novel that happened to skirt round enough literary and philosophic contours to give it, not only a hot reception with the sexually liberal revolutionaries in its capacity as filth, but also with the critics who might also proselytize about Lady Chatterley's Lover, during the sixties; and consequently found it very repetitive and lacking the danish-pastry power of Imagé present in DH Lawrence. Reading Amazon, I discover that it predated and influenced the likes of Freud and Mann and I am forced to re-review it. No, I think, it is still for me only a weak exploration of Nietchean themes from the eyes of a late Victorian pervert. OK don't let the Klimt cover fool you. Rather visualize the copy of my period edition, which has an aging red head straight out of a early Carry On film. Think: World of 'Venus in Furs' and you won't be far off.
