An excellent read. It is fascinating to read about the pressures of Chinese society and how they can shape a mans life.
"Every summer, Lin Kong returned to Goose Village to divorce his wife, Shuyu."
The very first sentence is already really attractive, and Ha Jin indeed described China in 1960s~1980s, family love, daily life, value, poloical issues, very attractively. I do not regret spending my holiday reading this book.
What is the meaning of love? At some level we all know what it is, but are we all capable of doing so? And what happens when there is more than one person involved?
