This is a pleasant nice reading. The writer did a research on the life in circuses during the beginning of the XX century, so there’s a very good historical background as for daily running of circuses at that time.
The story is lovely, a bit too much fable-like, but it balances the harsh facts it describes. The description of old age as it felt by the main character is great.
note : I have seen the movie after reading the book and in my opinion the movie is pure crap.
A amazing love story filled with lies, deceit, a affair and a amazing elephant. The book is highly descriptive and allows the reader to be transported into the circus with the performers and to fall in love.
It's not a book I'd recommend. It didn't really catch me at any point. It's ok, but there's nothing remarkable about it.
i read the book because of the movie, and i have to say it's a quite interesting reading expereience. cannot put it down. i even missed my ride one early moring because of this story....
