  A deeply moving book. It lays bare our prejudices, and challenges our understanding of what the Word of God really teaches about grace. Some of the stories that Yancey relates moved me to tears. Then again I was near to tears when I realised just how far the church throughout the ages had moved away from the real message of grace. We condemn the attitude of the Pharisees of Jesus' day but often our attitudes are no different. It's little wonder that man in the temple could only cry out, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner!"
