I don't want to give this a one-star rating, though I really disliked it, but that's purely a matter of taste, and not counting technical ability.
King writes with grace and displays a vast vocabulary. His pacing is too slow, though. Plodding up to the climax, he utilizes too many familiar elements of popular fantasy - the lone hero, the quest, the wise mage.
But it's not a bad first effort. For my taste, it was unnecessarily descriptive which slowed down the plot and didn't serve any narrative purpose....Continua
