Overrated Writing Seminar Fodder
Unlikeable passive automatons do rotten things or have rotten things done to them by other automatons. Short stories as slices of anomie. If you are cannot commit to suicide, read these!

OK...
I enjoy short stories, which is why I thought I'd give this book a go. I'd never read anything by Carver before, but the comparisons to Chekhov made on the cover drew me in.

To be honest I was a little disappointed. This book might impress some people, Americans of a certain older generation I imagine, but for me I found it hard. The characters were just difficult for me to identify with, their personalities, their lives, their locations. I felt I shared little to nothing in common with them.
