I am happy to have this book on my bedroom shelf.
The average quality of the novels is pretty good, with special praise to "climbing K2 with Kanakaderes", a tale that really sticks to your imagination way after you have finished reading it.
I think the most important features in this book are the introductions written by D.Simmons to his novels. They provide a clear insight into his conception of writing, and his relationship with his work. I personally find them really interesting and stimulating. It is the kind of stuff that makes you wish you had read more of the author, in order to appreciate them better.
The novels are all self-contained in their meaning and settings..but maybe the ORPHAN OF THE HELIX is the only one which could come a little difficult to understand to the novice who has not clue about the Hyperion universe. As for the rest of them, I find them quite enjoyable (although I had the luck of already being acquainted with both Hyperion and Ilium books)....Continua
