Enjoyable read although you definitely get a peek into that time's unconscious racist viewpoints.

Just started reading this and so far I don't like the first-person narrative nor am I feeling attached to the story. Maybe it'll pick up..

Really Enjoyed This -
I borrowed this book from a fellow Paulo Coelho fan who rides the same bus as I do in the morning. It was a really great read with a lot of depth and honesty. I now want to read the rest of Coelho's books in the order he wrote them.

Writing engrossing but did not feel the secret matched with all the build-up. Learning about the Amish was very interesting. The last chapters left me unfulfilled, and not just because it was only when I got to the end that I realized I was reading the start of a series, and so not much is wrapped up. The story comes alive in your head though.
