The Glass Bead Game: (Magister Ludi) A Novel By Clara, Richard/ Winston, Hermann Hesse
This I Believe
I'll Drink to That: Beaujolais and the French Peasant Who Made It the World's Most Popular Wine By Rudolph Chelminski
  • Very informative book although it was a little slow at times. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and learned a lot about Beaujolais.

This book started out very funny. It was witty, amusing, and drew me in. However, towards the end the book started to seem more and more whiny and repetitive. The author often makes references to poor writing of the text itself and also about how horrible his life is. Both simply detracted from the novel and should probably have been left out. Overall though, it was still an enjoyable light read.

How to Be Good By Nick Hornby

Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior By Temple Grandin, Catherine Johnson

Very insightful and a good read. The only thing that bothered me was the amount of unverified claims and one off stories she used to support her statements. I think she could have done a better job of proving the theories she has about animals. If you can ignore that though, you will love this book.

It was as well written as the first but not a really enjoyable read. The third in the series is better because it picks up the original storyline again.

Silver Wedding By Maeve Binchy
  • The ending of this book was better than some of her others. However, none of Binchy's stories are ever really satisfying. They just don't conclude well.

And even better, it also has the neat section in the back that summarizes all the points it made so you can easily reference or remember things in the future.

    I highly recommend it.

Full of It By Wendy French
  • A lighthearted read. It was entertaining although the conclusion seemed rather rushed. After a whole book of comedic mishaps it all seemed to get better very quickly. Worthwhile if you just want something fun but just don't expect too much.

This book was alright, but it didn't seem to say much. It had one point.. and it made it.. and then remade it.. and then seemed to contradict itself.. and just didn't do a great job at saying anything at all.

It did reference some really interesting experiments and those were fun to read about. It is also very easy and light reading; took me only 2 afternoons to finish. Both of those facts are the reasons why it wasn't completely regrettable.

Just don't go into the book expecting much and you will enjoy it.

Book was alright. It is very centered around a method the authors developed for determining your strengths. This method involves you taking an online test that you must pay for if you did not purchase the book. (There is one unique key per book copy) Once you find your strengths with their test it then proceeds to describe management techniques and such tailored to specific strengths. They even try to sell recruiting methods based on every prospective hire taking their test.

That's all fine and well but it seems it would be much better if they made the data they collected and/or their test more open. How can you trust a test when you don't know what it is doing or if it is valid?

With all that said, it was an easy read and finding your strengths is pretty fun if not altogether useful.
