Cover of The Right Attitude to Rain
Cover of Secret Woman
Cover of The Sunday Philosophy Club
Cover of My Best Friend's Girl
  • I can't say I like this book from beginning to ending. I quit like the first half part, which plotted a lot of friendship, reality of death and new family of Ryn and Tegan (the little girl). It did make my eyes damp cause it described very exquisitely people's feeling when facing the death matter.

For the other half, especially after the ex (Nate) appeared, the love affair of one woman and two men has took too many pages. I simply thought it very disturbing to read so much details of weakness and struggling and not knowing whom to pick.

Anyway, it's a still a good read and I quite enjoy it. :D ... (continue)

Cover of For One More Day
Cover of The Catcher in the Rye
  • For a long time, I thought the catcher in the rye is a book about some
successful baseball player. A memoir of the player's life. I read it
March 2008 and finally know what it is all about.

The catcher in the Rye is what Holden wants to be. Being a teenager
himself, he felt lost, frustrated, rebellion for everything. And he
has a wish to be the catcher to catch those kids playing in the rye.
Because he is afraid those kids might get close to the cliff and fall.
He, as a teenager himself can understand how they feel lost sometimes,
can be the one to help them, stop them from falling down the cliff.

Cover of The Thirteenth Tale.
  • I finished it last month. It's a good story and I like it. It did inspir me by understanding that our lives are not infinite. No matter how much one cares or fights about, it would all become ashes and dust after some decades after we vanished from this world. It's fancy to follow the plot to go into Miss Winter's old time story and come back to reality with Margret. But somehow I am not quite satisfied with it as the story comes to and end. I think there must be some more details about Margret, e.g. her connection with the doctor, her mother. ... (continue)

Cover of The Book Thief
  • *** This comment contains spoilers! ***

    The book thief's quote: P520.
The world is an ugly stew, she thought.
It's so ugly I can' t stand it.

Cover of Lady
  • The full title of this book is "Lady: my life as a bitch!".

Melvin Burgess is also the author of "Billy Elliot" and I guess this is the reason why I picked up this book from the shelf of Eslite book store. The story line is a bit plain compared to those fantasy Children literature.

A 17-yr-old girl who was turned into a dog one day. She was the girl Sandra and "Lady" in her dog body. It was unacceptable for her in the beginning of being a dog, but later on she(it) sort of realized how to live a dog's life.

The human and dog life gave her complete different perspectives towards life: being a human has so much responsibilities and being a dog is so happy, fun and lives for the moment wholeheartedly.

The ending is quite surprising and it reminds me of an old movie "Thelma and Louise". Everyone has to be brave to choose the life wanted. ... (continue)
