Un romanzo pieno di tensione, erotismo, dolore, ma soprattutto tanta voglia di amore.
Kairi, la donna dalle sette vite, nata sotto il segno della luna, sempre così restia a farsi conoscere, a mettersi a nudo, non cercava una storia d'amore, ma ha incontrato Lenny.
Lenny, un ragazzo con la sindrome da Pinocchio. Un uomo che non è cattivo, ma soltanto malato. Lui l'ha saputa stanare, ha trovato la chiave per penetrare attraverso l'armatura. Ha rotto il guscio e ha trovato la parte più morbida ed indifesa del mollusco. L'ha trovata e lentamente l'ha trafitta, come si fa con la forchetta quando si mangia una vongola. Kairi, non è debole, anzi. E' una donna forte, che però di fronte al cosiddetto amore, alla passione e alla tenacia di lui non sa dire di no. La sua storia, il suo passato l'hanno profondamente segnata. Non riesce e non vuole procurare dolore agli altri, e per questo non sa dire di no. Non riesce a ferire gli altri, ma è un fenomeno nel ferire sé stessa. Il suo stesso „altruismo“ diventa un arma, un coltello con cui si auto infligge delle ferite, che non si rimarginano mai. Si chiudono, forse, ma continuano a sanguinare, fino a quando non permette a Lenny di tornare alla carica e di strappare le cicatrici esponendo la carne dolorante.
Si fa fatica, durante tutta la lettura, a mantenere un giudizio oggettivo. Difficile comprendere un atteggiamento così autodistruttivo, che disturba in qualche modo. Tante donne avrebbero chiuso la porta, anzi no, l'avrebbero sbattuta in faccia ad una persona come Lenny. Mentre Kairi sembra quasi non riuscire a fare a meno degli abusi velati. Difficile comprendere come una donna, che sembra essere così libera e sicura di sé, riesca a farsi imprigionare in un gioco sadico e suicida come questo. Una storia forte, senz'altro, che fa molto riflettere sui giochi perversi in cui spesso le donne si lasciano coinvolgere, che hanno ben poco a che fare con l'amore. La storia di una donna che non ha imparato ad amare sé stessa prima di tutto. Perché solo amando sé stessi si riesce a riconoscere l'amore degli altri nei nostri confronti.

(Dalle mie considerazioni personali)Questa storia mi ha innervosito molto. Fino ad un certo punto ci sono stata dietro, poi ho dovuto saltare i capitoli dove si ripeteva in continuazione la storia di quanto Kairi non riuscisse ad amarsi e lasciasse che questo Lenny la distruggesse mentalmente e lentamente. Non so... donne così... insomma non ci riesco molto a provare empatia per queste storie... Io, forse sono troppo lontana da una visione come la sua. La visione che se dici che non ami un uomo questo potrebbe ammazzarsi. Forse sono troppo egoista o che, ma credo che non siamo noi responsabili per le azioni degli altri. Con questo non voglio dire che dobbiamo ferirli. Ma dobbiamo inanzitutto pensare al nostro bene. Per due ragioni principali: una è che se non siamo felici, nemmeno l'altra persona lo sarà con noi. Due: se non ci amiamo, ci prendiamo cura di noi stessi, difficilmente troveremo chi ci ama e ci vuole bene. Si chiama amor proprio ed è importante tanto quanto il sapere amare il nostro prossimo. Potrei andare avanti per pagine, ma mi fermo qui che non voglio annoiarvi!

I really enjoyed the previous books, so why *this*??? Damn it!
To be brief: Stefan is held in a prison. Fell's Church is controlled by the evil Damon, Elena and the fugitive Matt decide to enter the Dark Dimension, another “world” where Stefan's prison is situated and trying to free him. Damon and Elena get closer. Too close. It's not being clear, but I think very much close (if you know what I mean...). Only after Elena's virtue was restored, the one virtue she and her friends so hard tried to destroy in order to be “famous” girls at school. Anyway, poor Stefan is in a cage and Elena finds a way to go and visit him twice with an out of body experience. Something goes wrong between Matt and Elena, the boy drives back to Fell's Church and the other two friends take his place. Meredith and Bonnie. To enter the Dark Dimension the girls must be Damon's slaves. Once they're in this dimension, Elena can't help but making her usual mess of everything by saving another female slave. But in the end this will turn out to be a very useful event. Needless to say they find and save Stefan (I know, but come on, would you really expect anything else?). What should I say. Well, I am so disappointed that I really don't know what to say. The plot is not a 500 pages story. It was so boring I fell asleep twice (in an afternoon). In the end I even jumped sentences. A third of the book is about such tedious crap like dresses, make up and how humiliating it is to be a slave (as if the girls were real slaves and not only pretending). No suspense at all, the most important thing to Elena when she went to pay a visit to Stefan in prison was to take a bath, have a depilatory session, and a sexy dress, to remind him of what was waiting for him (come on!). What else? Not even Damon saved the day this time. He turned into a sloppy, tender puppy, who was complaining all the time about how bad he was, how sad a.s.o.
Probably (and this is the real spoiler if you want) the most exciting thing happens in the end, when he gets human instead of Stefan. I've come this far now. So I can't really give up and I will read the seventh and last book. Please make it be good! Don't let me read another “Twilight” experience again! I am so glad about the TV series now. I was before too, but THAT is a really exciting story!

Apart from this quote, I can't figure out the meaning of this story. I know it has a lot to do with friendship, love and life, but really: The only positive thing of this book is that even the most depressed reader realizes that their lives are not as bad as they think. There's this Robin guy. He lives in his flat and rarely goes out. He's been prosecuted for a sexual crime he hasn't committed. His closest friend is this woman Aparna, an Indian woman, once a "star" in the neighbourhood and now a bitter lonely woman, who accuses everybody of being selfish, when she is only thinking of herself. There's Hugh. He's unemployed waiting for some teacher to retire so that maybe he can find an academic job. Then there's Emma, the lawyer, whose marriage is dying.
Ted, whom we meet only briefly, and only at the beginning seems to be the happiest man among all of these people.
Though I loved the other two books by this author I found this one pointless and depressing. I hope "The House of Sleep" and "The Rain Before It Falls" aren't the only two books worth reading (though they're really amazing stories!)
I won't write an Italian review for this one, as I am not going to suggest reading this story.

Ein Pluspunkt für die Liebesgeschichte. Ich bin eine Romantikerin und sogar Twilight habe ich ertragen nur wegen der Romantik. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich ein Bisschen mehr Liebesszenen erwartet hätte, aber naja.
Ein Pluspunkt für die blutigen Szenen, die einfach zu einer Vampirstory gehören. Jedoch vielleicht nicht so lang und kompliziert beschrieben, dass man nicht mehr weißt ob die Leute tot sind oder immer noch durch den Raum fliegen, aber naja.
Zwei Punkte. Mehr wirklich nicht. Es mag schon sein dass Bücher wie Twilight lächerlich sind (und dazu noch hingeschmissenes Geld), aber von diesem Buch hier hätte ich ehrlich gesagt mehr erwartet. Ein Film gibt es auch noch und ich bereue nicht, dass ich nicht ins Kino gegangen bin.
Viel mehr kann ich leider nicht schreiben, weil viel mehr hat mir dieses Buch nicht gegeben.

Quattro amici hanno stretto un giuramento da bambini: avrebbero ucciso Alfred Tannenberg. A distanza di molti anni, ormai anziani, sono ad un passo da riuscire nel loro piano. Uno di loro, prima, confessa la prossima uccisione ad un prete e poi scappa. In Iraq, all'alba dell'ivasione degli USA, la nipote di Tannenberg, finanziatrice di una spedizione archeologica, in fretta e furia sta cercando la Bibbia d'Argilla. Le tavolette sarebbero state inscritte da "Shamas" uno scriba, al quale Abramo avrebbe raccontato la Genesi come gli era stata trasmessa da Dio. I soci di Tannenberg sono disposti a tutto pur di mettere le mani su quelle tavolette e non si fanno nessuno scrupolo: uccideranno chiunque li intralci.
Ma qual'è il vero motivo per cui i quattro anziani odiano a tal punto Tannenberg da voler uccidere non solamente lui, ma eliminare per intero tutta la sua stirpe?
L'autrice intreccia abilmente fra loro il tempo di Abramo, con vicende della seconda guerra mondiale, passando per i giorni nostri.
