  • To many people, Yoga is a form of exercise.
But, Yoga is actually much much much more than that.

    Life is a miracle!

In this world, some of us are sad, some are mad.
Some want to hide away from facts.
But, till the end, we shall find
    miracle is life,
when nothing is not in our hands.

    ********************************************

I took a course on the philosophy of science during undergraduate. Since then, I have been enthralled by the subject.

"The principle task of philosophy of science is to analyse the methods of enquiry used in various science."...quoted from p.12

I think both the philosophy and the history of science are of paramount importance to the study and practice of science. It is pity that many scientists neglect them nowadays.

This book may not be the best one, but surely it is a good introductory of the subject and a good revision for me.

The Pilgrimage. A Contemporary Quest for Ancient Wisdom By Paulo Coelho
  • I love Coelho's <Alchemist> and <Zahir>. But this book is a bit "too much" for me.

The book talks about Coelho's search for Spirituality when he did his prilimage in Spain. It contains many descriptions on mystic rites, which are not always agreeable to me.

Indian Philosophy: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions) By Sue Hamilton
  • Indian philosophy has a development history of over 5,000 years. It is really very difficult to present the topic in a "Very Short Introduction". The topics covered in the book appears to be very much simplified.

Nevertheless, this book opens a door for me.

This book《Evolution: the triumph of an idea》, I should have read a long time ago. It is so brilliantly written and (I think) is a “must read”!

Darwin’s brilliant evolution theory is not simply “evolution by natural selection”, but is a much more sophisticated and imperative scientific work. The book talks about the development history of evolution theory, its strong links between a wide range of disciplines, such as geology, biology, ecology, biotechnology…etc. The chapters on the evolution (rise) of human being (homo sapiens) are particularly interesting. During the reading of this book, I rediscovered the importance of my own discipline (earth sciences), and once again thought how lucky I am to have chosen it.

In the last chapters, the author discusses the “fight” between Darwinism and Christianity. As a geologist myself, I observe many processes of the Earth; I learn how rocks and minerals are formed; I find ancient animals and plants in fossils. The material world is so obvious that it seems the room for “God” is very slim. Yet, I am not denying the importance of religions. And yet, I simply cannot believe in the existence of a “Creator” of our universe. For me, science is science, whereas faith is faith; there is nothing contradictory of the two completely different notions!

Now that we have lived to our age, have gained some or many experiences from life.

We know the skills and all the connections we needs for our works.

We have savings in banks, some books, houses or cars.

Friends, who can share our happiness, are around us.

Our bodies still have the strength they need.

And, if lucky, a lovely companion, and even one or two children, are nearby.

Our lives seem to be contented. We seem to want the same conditions be continued till the end.

But...do we have the COURAGE to "give up" all of these, just to search for our dreams? For the deepest desires in our hearts?

Maybe, we should learn to see other people, no matter having autism or not, in a totally different angle. And then, the world will become a very different place.
