故事橋段不複雜，差不多可說是《茶花女》的現代版。亦舒的筆法很bitchy，跟「錢瑪莉」很相似。相傳信報八十年代有個叫「中環儷人」專欄，筆法也是這一種［可惜我沒看過］。這種都市女郎的風格其實很香港，很城市。
說回亦舒的《喜寶》，我起初以為只是普通的流行小說。當讀到男富翁殺死女主角的德裔情人那一幕，張力很大，戲劇效果很好，立刻明白故事開端為什麼安插那些伏筆。〔男富翁殺死女主角的德裔情人在第七章〕
