TRE STELLE E MEZZO
Questo libro è rimasto a prendere la polvere nella mia libreria per ben 6 anni. Ricordo benissimo di averlo comprato a Londra proprio quando uscì perchè avevo tanto amato l'esordio di Eugenides ma, come spesso mi capita, l'avevo poi riposto da una parte. Diverso tempo fa avevo iniziato a leggerlo per abbandonarlo dopo qualche pagina, non era il momento. Stavolta ho rischiato nuovamente di fermarmi perchè la primissima parte proprio non mi andava giù, ma non ho voluto demordere e sono stata premiata. Infatti, "Middlesex" mi è piaciuto molto, è una storia affascinante, originale, che attraverso le vicende personali di una famiglia originaria della Grecia, racconta l'America del '900, il tutto filtrato dagli occhi di Calliope, meravigliosa creazione letteraria di un autore che sa realmente scrivere. I personaggi sono perfettamente tratteggiati, le scene che descrive si stagliano davanti al lettore come se si trattasse di un film, tanto sono vivide. E' appassionante e gli si perdona anche qualche lungaggine di troppo.

Milton’s eyebrows lifted. But after a moment’s consideration he nodded, confirmed in his suspicions. “Figures. They let you in for free. Then you gotta pay for the rest of your life”
