167 pages of seamless monologue formulated by tireless Germanic sentences, Thomas Bernhard's writings demand assiduous reading. A challenging read, indeed. His aberrant use of language well suits the men of muddled sapiency and lunacy he depicts. Four stars for his innovated technique and discerning sensibility, but the remaining one star is reserved for my own failure to read between the lines.
