Faith Hunter and her Rogue Mage Novels
-
A friend of mine who has always loaned me the best books recently handed me one I've never heard of, the first two novels in Faith Hunter's trilogy of Rogue Mage novels. The first book is called Bloodring. Anyone heard of this author or book? The back cover blurb is pretty good. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Excellent! I'm on the hunt for new authors, looking forward to your thoughts.

I've read them. The storyline is pretty good, but the ending is kind of crummy because it seemed like there was so much left to cover. It was like one of those movies that cut to the credits and you're left asking, "Wait, what happened next?" There's now a roleplaying game based on the books, maybe that's why she left it open ended?

I'm really enjoying it. Kim Harrison called the books "a new, strongly unique voice in the dark fantasy genre." I have to agree. I'm about half finished, and it's not like other mage books. I've not read a "magical" themed book in the time period it's set in or with the challenges they face.
I think she left it open because more books are coming. There's 3 now and talks of a fourth. I'll be sure to put up a "review" about it when I'm finished.
