just too depressing book 2 -
Lionel Shriver has a way with words - her works are dense and intense and you live the situation with the protagonist. I adored We need to talk about Kevin and the Post Birthday World (even though partially about the world of snooker). Here we are in the world of: everything goes wrong and life stin ... (

just too depressing (book 1) -
who cares? A guy gets a nobel at 28 and then squanders his life for the next 25 years - marries 5 times, drinks too much - is full of himself. An interesting subject for a book...no. Loved Amsterdam and On Chesnil Beach so I will try him again, another time...

grating voice -
I now realize this is at least the second time I have tried to get through this book. The voice is whiney, who's voice - the scapegoat - an actual professional scapegoat in a department store who happens to be pretty much in the wrong place at the wrong time - when the bombs go off. One of the top w ... (

beautiful style but like eating a truffle - very rich and slow... -
couldn't finish - wanted to but just too slow. Writng is elegant and beautiful but pace is hard to take. First story is very strong - father/daughter power issues, second more difficult. I abandonned but may go back (on vacation or when I retire...)

I'm too old -
Language is prickly, story unrolls but the truth is I'm just not interested in high school kids (except my own)...

flower child wannabe1 person find this helpful -
I loved Jennifer Egan's other books so I grabbed this one which is her first. Story is just not engaging - younger sister trying to deal with older sister flower child's untimely death, father issues, blah blah. Skip and read her other books...

I so loved "double vie" that I immediately started reading lutecia. What a disappointment - though maybe I didn't give it enough time - 100 pages and I had had it. Never got off ground floor for me...

a bore -
subject is great - two families adopt Korean kids at the same time and then...stay in touch. but after that, so what? no interest whatsoever. Dissapointing. Hadn't read Anne Tyler in a long time probably won't try again

The Finkler Question
A great start but the kwetching gets you in the end. I loved it, and then hated it - after a while I just couldn't deal with the whining. So I abandoned...but parts are very funny - whole premise is great - three men, 2 Jewish, one not - and who is the stereotypical jew? the goy!!
