As much individuals, I appreciate pireps from those of you with knowledge about shops you use (bad or good) and love to spread my experience to the consideration of others as well. After a so-so experience during a recent avionics install, I found myself looking for the best alternate avenue for the setting up a fresh transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The tariff of one was so high which i actually busted out laughing on the phone just as if I were with a comedy bar. He was apparently significantly less amused as I. I was telling the tale of my local quote with a friend in the airport anf the husband recommended which i call John Stark at Stark Avionics for the quote. In doing my homework before calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps around the shop. In the process, I came across a truly terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you would like you just read it). This pirep caused me serious concern about if they should call Stark for a quote.
I posted a general query for suggestions about an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He i spoke in reference to his experience with Stark and i also chose to give John a call using the two recommendations I from trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns regarding the negative pirep on MS cheap I became gun shy depending on the previous experience. As they always say, there are two sides to every story and John took his time for it to explain his side if you ask me at all like me certain he will be willing to use anyone else who want to phone him in that regard. Our conversation shifted from your pirep to pricing. John i discussed different equipment options, an amount are perfect for my needs/wants as well as the flat rate installed price per option. We ultimately chose to install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted me a soft price, but was in advance that the number may be slightly higher in the event the tray was riveted in (as much Mooneys are). I went to edinburgh airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were that come with screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded in a really timely manner and confirmed the flat rate price for your equipment and install in some recoverable format and that we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane ended up being be delivered the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said he would have all the feaures ready by Tuesday, however i opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday in the event that there have been some snags on the way.
