good collection of essays on Althusser -- easy reading -- a promising start to dig deeper into the whole Althusserian interpretation of Marx, Lenin, et al., in terms of both politics and philosophy.

2 parts on the arts: Art with a capital A, and art in general, such as in the case for literature. I find part one unutterably dull, though written in a light and entertaining style. It is more informative than analytical. Part two is unbearable with its endless reference and lack of explication...

A number of colleagues had expressed their praises of the joy of reading this book. I, however, remained untouched -- perhaps due to my painting background? I really did not find it interesting in any way... Well, these lines did make me smile:

Smaller than I thought. A pleasant read indeed.
I am no liar, and I do not bullshit.
That makes me socially handicapped. Darn!
