I really appreciated the fact this is neither a black or a female coming-of-age novel, but a universal Bildungsroman. Hurston's mastery in the use of symbols and language(s) makes this work a masterpiece.

My first reading in English, such a sweet memory! Very fun.

I can't see how this volume can be positioned. It should deal with basic linguistics, yet it is far too basic for that. It is likely to have been written for non specialists who may be curious about the "frameworks" of English.
