A must read for anyone wanting to know exactly what John Calvin's Doctrine was. Calvin defends this doctrine against the criticisms and contrary doctrines of those who chiefly opposed Predestination in Calvin's own day. In defending the doctrine. Calvin also necessarily expounds it further. This is the first modern translation of this document. The first translation into English was by Henry Cole 1856 and reprinted in 1927 by the Sovereign Grace Union. This was updated and reprinted by the RFPA in 1987 and included two historical introductions. So here is J K S Reids translation which to me is very readable and does allow us to read and understand Calvin's thought on the subject. It would have been great if John Calvin could have written a treatise on this subject without the necessity of refruting erroneous doctrines at the same time., we would then have had a most clear, logical and systematic explanation of this doctrine. Here is an opportunity to have this book for yourself and read it at your liesure.

Some of the refugees who listened employed Denis Raguenier, a professional scribe, to record and translate Calvin's Sermons in 1549. The Sermons on Deuteronomy were preached in 1555-6 so they employed Denis for a number of years and must have thought it worth it. These Sermons abound in faithful and lively exposition, and remain one of the finest example of Evangelical preaching - faithful to the biblical text and thoughtfully applied to the individual and society.

He gives the essence of the good matter. For practical use this work is perhaps more valuable than any other Key to the Song." Durham treats this Song as an allegory of Christ and the Church. I find that this is a great commentary to read devotionally as it is full of Christ and our relationship to Him. This is not a dry technical commentary in any way. This Banner book is at present out print so only available on the second hand market. If you see it, buy it, read it, for it will do your soul good. Please note that the dust jacket pic is different on this copy as they have the later reprint covers and not this 1st Banner of Truth printing.
