The Prone Gunman
I found this short novel a compelling read. While the first 3/4 of the book plays out more or less as expected, Jean-Patrick Manchette shifts the tone in the final act. I found this acceptable as it offers an ending that departs from genre clichés. Some may find the shift in tone jarring though.

I found this short novel a compelling read. While the first 3/4 of the book plays out more or less as expected, Jean-Patrick Manchette shifts the tone in the final act. I found this acceptable as it offers an ending that departs from genre clichés. Some may find the shift in tone jarring though.
Prose is descriptive yet very spartan - which reminded me very much of Jean-Pierre Melville's classic hitman movie Le Samourai.
