This is a collection of short stories... one of which is rewritten as a play at the end. All of which are disturbing some gory, others very sexual. I picked this up at a Walgreens before a flight I figured I'd be in and out of sleep for the 10hrs so short stories would work. I've read worse but the play was a little ridiculous. Although I never did like reading things in play form because that relies on acting you don't see that would normally be written into a novel. I'd give it a C+.

I thought this was an easy read. It wasn't completely enthralling and I felt that it had a lot of repetition of key phrases or ideas or "feelings" from the characters that Rice was trying to shove down your throat, in the way that the Potter books repeat the whole entire previous book in the beginning of the next in the series. If you have a brain it screams OK I GET IT THIS BOOK COULD HAVE BEEN 50 PAGES. I thought it read like a novel that would have been in the juniors section of the library. It dealt with life choices relating to family, religion, celibacy... with a jumble of staring at the scenery of the CT shore and throwbacks at Ireland...

I think Rice tried and it wasn't a total flop, but when I was done I was done and I've already forgotten how it ended.

This is the class prequel to the LOTR trilogy. I never made it through the trilogy because I just thought The Hobbit was so much better! I read this for the first time in 5th grade. Its a great story - so fantastic and brilliant. It really is another world. One day I'll read the Trilogy... after I reread the Hobbit :)
