I generally love Kingsolver. This was good, but not great in my opinion. Definitely felt the heat, the humid heaviness and sultry summer sexiness. Liked the 3 main women too, but ultimately felt disappointed with the end of each of their stories, excepting for maybe Lusa's. Worth a read though. Very ... (continue)

Meh. Beginning was interesting, but by the end it was a struggle to finish. Seemed VERY embellished at times, though the ultimate messages conveyed were no doubt good enough for me to take some to heart. Found the author mildly irritating.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

So slow for the first 200+ pages. I hated the Wennerstrom subplot but enjoyed the Vanger mystery. The end was bad too, because it reverted to the Wennerstrom storyline. The middle chunk was pretty good.

Interesting at times, a good summer read for anyone interested in surfing, that's for sure. Pretty damn self-indulgent and egotistical though. Especially the very last few pages - I laughed in the author's cocky face.

Really interesting, tangible writing style. Could definitely relate to and want to save some passages. Makes you think. Love the genderless narrator and the pure, unabashed, raw love.

Fantastic nonfiction that reads like fiction. Didn't know anything about the Chicago World's Fair and was astounded to find how much of an impact it has had. Loved the alternative storyline too.

I may have guessed the ending, but that didn't make the book any less riveting. The whole psychological factor made me really think about what and how an insane person thinks. I also thought the "An insane person denies he's insane. Bob denies he is insane. Ergo Bob is insane" premise was really interesting, and I loved how it worked the other way too - in Teddy's mind, criminals deny they're doing anything wrong. The doctors denied they were doing anything wrong. Ergo, the doctors were the bad guys. I can't wait to watch the movie - I hope it is as good a translation of Lehane's work as Mystic River and Gone, Baby, Gone were. I really can't wait to see Leo play this really intriguing character.
