This is the first of the Hutchins books by Jack McDevitt that I have read. It was very good, though sometimes I found myself dragging through sections dealing with what were really minor characters, while those I considered the "main characters" were struggling with a life or death situation. I will probably read the rest of this series in time, but as of yet Polaris and Seeker are my favorites.
