I'm sure the movie will be better. I liked the concept of the story, but after being 3/4 through the book, I still didn't have enough information about "the big mystery" to want to keep reading.

Unread. I did get about 1/3 of the way through this book once before beginning a new job that squashed my reading opportunities. Never went back to it, but I will, I promise!! Need to start from the beginning again...

I read the first book, and enjoyed it. It is full of adventure and exploring, good characters from all stations of life, and all in an intriguing world. But at page 300 of book 2, I decided this series isn't for me. There are three to four different plots going on, some of which I don't care for, and more families and characters than I can keep straight. I can't say don't read it, but read all three books in a row, and not on your lunch break at work in a busy restaurant!
