  • In terms of how much I liked them, this is the second best from Coe (the first being the magnificent What a Carve Up).
    Great characters, and interesting stories, that paint a picture of a place in time I didn't know, the UK in the '70s. I often happen to enjoy stories about young people coming of age, and this was no exception.
    Only three stars, though, because of the non existant finale, which actually makes it feel as half a book. And the second half - The Closed Circle - although enjoyable is not nearly as good as this. ... (continue)
