This is a long history of Israel that start from 1948 and before. It describe how the foundamentals of new high tech industry were on the way of explosion with the genesis of the state.
The wars or the techniques of farming are described as same process of entrepreneurship for start up dawn of the 90's. Now a great rule is that of technical school or sciences, but with some difficulties in others sectors as the minorities and especially for womens to work, it is equal to latins countries.
Well written with chapters that tells more stories, is a council of good reading for 300 easy pages. Yet we can check how the world change in the globalization.

When I think of every possibility of the world that is one. The autobiography of Barack Obama written in 1992 is a great voyage through humankind in recent history & our time. Perhaps it would seem plot of destiny or something such in material world that needn't explanation, but as well as written is an pleasure to reading.
The author start with his first memories in Hawaii with his mother across childhood in Indonesia, after in university and Chicago as lawyer, the trip in Europe & finally in Kenya after father death to know his family and origins.
Now the book is very readable and understanding matters as the race, the sense of the life helpful for someone or all.

How this book start is a description of several problems around ski industry as appear as mining industry in the last century and 10 years after first issue an overview from Amazon confirmed my doubt about proliferation of critics.
Alps comparison is correct when we think of that huge amount of capital is needed, to fuel the sector.In Europe the public sector pay and in USA pay the worker with low wages; for example when the European Union imposed to dismount the pasture in South Tyrol isn't succeded 20 years after and now grants loans mainly to greats project as ski slopes.. But the author has shaped his ideas on USA situation of 2002 that show a three society in play for domino. At this point the real estate business play at first. The high profit and real gentrification is an obvious consequence.
The mistake is in Environmental Protection Agency when it leaves acres of soil to business profit. Turn around the business, often we can see high wage customers and poor people that not deciding nothing in his town because the economy is ever in lost considering the demographic scale of resident and houses living in contrast to houses empties. When the author analyze the problem of life cost, I live in mountain village in Dolomites, well it is the last stage of circuit, I will end with this phrase of last page of book, extrapolated from the positive examples of cooperative choice or skiing in natural snow at Silverton where isn't producted by guns:
..where a couple of folks who didn't like the status quo decided to change things, decided to reject what seemed inevitable and return to the roots that always have made this sport great. The lesson from Europe and from our own destruction of communities in the name of progress is that the time has come for Americans to set aside the concept of manifest destiny...

My research was started 1 year ago http://veritaemetodo.blogspot.it/2011/02/lettera-denunc… when I face the plague of sidewalks occupied by cars. I have ordered 2 times this book, the first by "The Book Depository" and I never seen the book and not my money go back; the second by "bargainbookstores" via www.amazon.co.uk and I was more fortunate.
The book is the most important published on the theme of parking policy. Made by an american, USA where the problem was analized firstly by motorists, it becomes the problem of 21th by urbanists, mayors, citizens and so on. Well it has 706 pages of pure enjoyment to foresee that this problem from 2003 to today was not normalized. It's logical, because the economy need it until the social cost becomes more of benefits. In 22 chapters it describes the genesis and the balance of the past decades in terms of common sense of freedom to have the maximum feasibility to move. In the origins, 1920-30 in the United States the problem was faced as a morality problem (today in my country is the same), but on the dawn of 21th century, Donald Shop look it from a logic consequences of opportunity cost. Example:
1. Where the common moral judgement that tend to see one value in free parking for merchants, the same point of view by Shoup is that the minimum required parking to merchants is an cost estimated to 30000$ for every parking.
2. Where the common moral tend to see one gain for community that have larger MALL, Shoup face the pauperization of scarce community resources, where the monetary value of land is only in output to consume it and not in input to preserve it, or to mortify the historical centers in favour of MALL. The major cost however is to mantain parking, the sidewalks, the transit, the security the environment costs added.
3. Los Angeles & New York.
Well, when I think these two city, the proposal of the book, is to create a source of gain by limiting the cost of building parking, by removing the minimum required parking and with help of technology by creating the permits parking on street, for residents by a small cost, and for non resident by modular cost that focus on 85% of the occupancy rate.
The surplus gain advantages are:
1. The possibility of earmarking the money on transit service, on building sidewalks, on plant trees, installing the light point at high technology value (with solar panels, wifi, webcam for security) as well as for off-street parking.
2. Giving the value to the land, where how in Europe the high population density create various problem, for agricolture, for living cost, or others problems; is simple dividing the sale cost of apartment from parking cost (everyone of us pay for motorists).
Finally Donald Shoup inviting all togheter with regard to parking as a service create by man for man that must be paid & that generate tangible virtue in moral sense & in live of each one.Many aspects not mentioned, are treated on "The High Cost of Free Parking" by Donald Shop, strongly reccomended for those who think that the world is flat (also an apartment...

It's a beautiful book that describe the italian libraries situation catched in 2009 and before. Step by step it describe the evolution in synthesis from birth in middle ages to now with some photographs. Now the legislation is explained very well and so on the possible future goals.
Varius numeric informations is joining to an ample analysis of distribution of the libraries.
Another analysis is so for the library cataloguing, very complex.
One chapter is dedicated to new frontiers entitled as "Digital libraries" that dig deep into projects from Italy to Europe as SBN, Minerva & Micheal (where I met www.repec.or k & http://roar.eprints.org/ http://www.ssrn.com/ a wealth of knowledge).
This book was a gift obtained from MIBAC to "Più libri più liberi" exhibition held in Rome (4/8 december 2010) is in english and edited by "Mibac - Ministero per i beni e le attività culturali", "Cepell - Centro per il libro e la lettura", "AIB - associazione italiana biblioteche".

This is one easy book that explain the difference from old economy matters & new business surviving models. It is written by Chris Anderson the former author of "The long tail" a must of technology books. Google example is reported in some aspects as microsoft declining in O.S. market. The Moore's law is another reference for understanding the actual situation & the future, that will provide more possibility than impossibility. Many others example treated into the book are: wikipedia, NYT, nestcape, google docs etc..
The book (257 pages) has three section for 16 chapters. In the last chapter I look one idea of reading: The High Cost of Free Parking - Donald Shoup that explain the value of nature in relation to man.

Reading of some years after publication this book represent a sum of conceptions that turn on tech sites. Is an explanation of the positive effect for market, "The Long Tail" is the tide of availability for anyone information or stuff crafts of man get easily takes from web advent 2.0. In comparison with the actual "monopoly" of Facebook, in Italy almost, but well telling not sure in the rest of the world, ok now in positive optimistic way, we can appreciate that this historic passage summarizes the realization of diminishing of the waste of time & cut down of prices of all products used & processed into vast scale. The new scenario give us an hope that the many inefficienses along communication & distribution in one world restricted alway more opportunity to pratical level of everyone's life; when I think for example to organize a trip or catch a unfindable book, but I hope in many services, as to get one job as happened to me in 2001 via internet, now I return to mine engagement in http://boinc.berkeley.edu that I think will be the future of grid republic, or rather achievement of internet spirit, almost for free as scientific discovery, a democratization of every possibility of human consciousness.
